EXPLORE PARIS

PARIS – TOURIST HUB

When planning a trip to Paris, one of your most pressing questions is likely to be "When is the best time to go?" If you're set to visit Paris for the first time, you may be persuaded that the much-lauded "Paris in the springtime" is the obvious choice-- but depending on your budget, tolerance for large crowds, and centers of interest, another time of year may suit you better. Similarly, if you've been to Paris before, you may wonder whether a fall or winter visit will be worthwhile, given rumors of cold, bitter conditions and gloomy locals. The reality, though, is far more nuanced-- the winter holiday season in Paris offers plenty of light and celebration, and in the fall, events like the Montmartre Wine Harvest bring the city to life in a memorable way. As a resident of the city of light, my own take is that every season here has its charms and pitfalls-- as anywhere else! Use this guide to help make an informed decision about when to visit Paris. Click on the links below to navigate to detailed guides on each season.
Coming events in Paris
Free Music and Early Summer Cheer Spill into the Paris Streets:
La Fête de la Musique is a lively street music festival held every June 21st in Paris, and is one of the year's most popular events in the city of light. Hundreds of musicians gather in the streets, bars, and cafes of Paris, giving free performances of everything from jazz and rock to hip-hop and electronic music.
FRENCH OPEN

The French Open, officially called the Tournoi de Roland-Garros is a tennis event held in Paris from mid-May though to early June. It is the second Grand Slam tournament played in the year.
AUTUMN FESTIVAL
Held annually, in autumn as the very name suggests, this festival features contemporary arts. The pieces, exhibitions on display, performances and acts cover a broad spectrum of art forms, and some of the genres included in this festival include dance, sculpture, literature, film, theatre and music. As an international festival, the participating artists come from all over the world.
PPARIS MARATHON
Another popular sporting event in the City of Lights is the Paris Marathon, held every May. With groups of spectators cheering participants along, this race begins at the Place de la Concorde.
World Circus Festival of Tomorrow
This is a must-see on your itinerary when in Paris. This circus festival is held on a yearly basis and consists of a gathering of leading international circus performers from famous schools around the world performing their breathtaking and awe-inspiring stunts and acts. One of the event’s aims is to showcase new talent, from animal trainers to acrobats and clowns. The circus is guaranteed to provide entertainment.
Horse Racing
Horse racing is a popular sport and pastime in France and two of the biggest and most important race horsing events are held in the country’s capital. The Prix de la République and the Grand Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe are both held on the first and last Sunday in October.
Le Salon du Chocolat
Yet another festival, this one appeals to the stomach in a big way… based entirely on chocolate, this festival, also international, is held in a convention center beneath the Louvre, and attracts chocolatiers and chocaholics alike, from all over the world. It is not merely a sampling fair, however; the festival also focuses on the history of chocolate and chocolate fashion, art and sculpture. Even chocolate makeup is an option here.
